Gillian makes an error in subject/verb agreement

“I think one of the more physically challenging aspects for me at the time were that there were a couple of scenes where we had quite a bit of dialogue and when you’re in that kind of weather and the wind is slightly blowing and the snow is coming down, your lips actually do freeze.” - Gillian Anderson, on filming The X-Files: I Want to Believe

Gillian has made an error in subject/verb agreement at the beginning of her statement. The subject of the first plural verb “were” is the singular pronoun “one.” Three prepositional phrases come between the subject and the verb; cross them off to isolate the subject:

one [of the more physically challenging aspects] [for me] [at the time] were

To correct the error, change the plural verb to a singular one:

“I think one of the more physically challenging aspects for me at the time was that there were a couple of scenes where we had quite a bit of dialogue and when you’re in that kind of weather and the wind is slightly blowing and the snow is coming down, your lips actually do freeze.”
