Members of Steely Dan sent Luke Wilson an epistle describing an injustice they believe his brother Owen and the producers of You, Me and Dupree have perpetrated against the band. They feel that the blatant similarities between the character Owen plays in the movie and the man described in their Grammy-winning song "Uncle Dupree" are not arbitrary and that Owen's involvement in this infraction will have grave ramifications for his karma. The band members asked Luke to impel his brother to attend a Steely Dan concert to offer a contrite apology to the audience and, afterwards, possibly play with the band on his bongos.
